Ultraman x State Farm campaign launches today

it-ultra

The long-awaited Ultraman campaign for State Farm launches today! Mashing up Asia’s O.G. costumed hero franchise with motorists in distress is a perfect fit for the Chinese market in America, and the videos are pretty cool. (Be sure to clarify that it’s Ultraman Neos when sharing this, or you will be slammed by your otaku friends.)

Check out the first piece below and get more details about Ultra Service at statefarm.com/chinese.

A Premiere (Of Love and Rain) and a Preview (Architecture for Dogs)

At 8:00 p.m. tonight, the first episode of interTrend’s latest original web drama, Of Love and Rain, will air on Chinese stations across the United States. With Taiwanese stars Peter Ho (Young and Dangerous 6) and Janine Chang (Silk) and a real Taiwanese sensibility when it comes to pacing, lights, and style, this is guaranteed to make you laugh and cry–and perhaps even upgrade your insurance to State Farm. Of course, you can also go to the website to check out the episodes, behind-the-scenes footage, and more.

Meanwhile, Imprint Culture Lab’s Architecture for Dogs project is gaining momentum toward its December premiere at Design Miami/Basel. Can’t wait to find out more about the Kenya Hara (MUJI) project? Information and images have been leaking out via The New York Times, Wallpaper, and other outlets. The official site goes live on the 15th. Save the date!

3 Idiots, Big in Bollywood, State of Uncertainty

interTrend’s crowd-pleasing, Bollywood-rooted new campaign for State Farm has launched and movie fans will immediately recognize its star. Omi Vaidya is the American actor who was thrust into fame for his cameo in Aamir Khan’s box-office smash 3 Idiots (2009). Vaidya’s unlikely ascent into the Southeast Asian spotlight was documented by friends in Big in Bollywood (2011).

You can purchase the 3 Idiots DVD at just about any Indian grocery store (or movie supplier with a decent international selection) and I’m pretty sure Big in Bollywood is still doing the film festival circuit (that’s where I saw it). As for the State Farm spot, watch it here.

Look for more State of Uncertainty spots on the way. And Hollywood and Hong Kong (by Stephen Chow!) remakes of 3 Idiots as well!
